Houses in Vietnam are built using plenty of concrete which is mixed by hand due to lack of access into the narrow alleys. Concrete is more durable than timber in a country where white ants run rampant. So I’ve grown used to seeing concrete in it’s many shapes and forms but this is the first time I’ve seen a poured fully concrete pitched roof. I was watching them put in the form work yesterday and thinking to myself, “No, they can’t be serious!” But yep, there it is and I’d love to know how much it weighs.
[update] I’ve just added a second image showing the next step in the roofing process of this house. Steel battens have been placed over the concrete for tiles. Certainly a solid way of building but i can’t help thinking the gap between tiles and concrete is going to make an excellent space for birds/vermin to make a secure home.
